Center for Marine & Wetland Studies

The Center for Marine and Wetland Studies at Coastal Carolina University was established in 1989 by the Horry County Higher Education Commission to facilitate applied and basic research on the unique natural environments of the Grand Strand area and the state of South Carolina.

Center for Aging & Active Retirement

The Office of Lifespan Studies serves as the educational and research center for aging resources for the university and region.


Environmental Quality Lab

The Environmental Quality Laboratory (EQL) at Coastal Carolina University (CCU) is a non-profit facility emphasizing education, student training, research, and community service.


Waccamaw Watershed Academy

In 2004, Coastal Carolina University established the Waccamaw Watershed Academy (WWA) under the aegis of the Center for Marine and Wetland Studies (CMWS) to meet local needs for expertise in the areas of watershed and wetland science and management.


The Smith Exercise Science Laboratory is an educational, service, and research unit within the Department of Health, Kinesiology, and Sport Studies. The Smith Exercise Science Lab's highly trained faculty, staff, and students use state of the art equipment to provide the services that promote healthy and active lifestyles.

The GK-12 program at Coastal Carolina University (CCU) teams GK-12 Fellows from the Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies (CMWS) graduate program with cooperating teachers and undergraduates to build STEM-related partnerships between the university and local schools and to enhance the educational programs and experience for students at the middle school, high school, and university level.
